My pick is the Metropolis – I feel naked without it. It has my whole life inside of it: where I go, it goes. My Metro carries everything I want and the tools for every eventuality - plus space for my rain coat.

The Metropolis from Chrome is the epitome of quality, boasting construction that feels like it will last, as the company promises, for a lifetime. I purchased this bag to ameliorate my bike commute to school, one which was fraught with discomfort and danger caused by the narrow strap, poor design and smaller capacity of my previous bag.
The storage capacity of the Metropolis is Texan in its expanse, providing room for just about anything you could carry. And yet, the design of the strap, with its integrated padding and signature seatbelt-style buckle, provides load dispersion and a comfortable ride no matter how much cargo is in tow. On my 30-minute ride, I typically carry an accordion-style file folder full of documents, one or two textbooks, several notebooks, an overstuffed lunchbox, towel, shower supplies, change of clothes, shoes, and Nalgene bottle. I always have room to spare, my belongings stay dry through the fiercest deluge or swampy bombardment of back-perspiration, and the design hugs the cargo to my body, preventing annoying/dangerous shifting during sprints up those big hills.
Another great feature for the cyclists considering this bag is the seatbelt-style buckle which makes taking off and putting on the bag a breeze while wearing a helmet.
In my opinion, the only drawback is the price. However, when you think of all the bags that you would consume and discard in the course of a lifetime, you're really being an environmental hero and a savvy consumer by choosing a bag from Chrome. Just like any lifelong commitment, however, make sure you choose carefully the one you want to be with before diving in :)

So I consider myself a bag fanatic, messenger or backpack, and this has to be one of the most comfortable bags out there. Sure it's pricey but it will last you 2 or 3x the time a regular bag would. The Metro has a large main compartment for storing anything really, it would be a bit better if it had more pockets and such but overall it is more than enough. The bag may be "weird" to wear the first few times but after a while you begin to get accustomed and feel out of place not wearing it. The metro holds your cargo close to your body in order to prevent uncomfortable shifting during rides or runs, and makes a semi-heavy load seem lightweight because of this.
Sure it costs a bit but I am confident it will handle anything you throw at it!!!

OK, so I have bought a-lot of bags in the past years. I found myself buying a different bag every month, but this one is perfect. Every other bag was just not right, either it was too small or the straps hurt, or it was just not piratical. The Chrome Metropolis bag is perfect. I carry a lot of stuff with me, because it seems like the day I don't have something is the day I need it, so I have learned too just take everything with me. so this is what I put in my bag it make it easier.
Camera in camera bag with 3 lenses
drawing pad, notebook, and book (one or two depending)
Six yes thats right six cans of Montana paint
sweater, street shoes or clip ons so I can change when I get off my bike
and a bunch of small things like, pens, sun glasses, keys, headphones, spray can tips, and tools, bike pump, bike lock, extra tube.
and yet its not that bulky, easy too get on and off public transportation and you don't have too worry about people looking in it behind you on the train, street car, subway, bus, ect.
Well all in all I give this bag a 10 out of 10.

TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, I WAS INTRODUCED TO THIS COMPANY DUE TO SEEING A FORMER CLASSMATE WITH A BACKPACK. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I SAW THE MESSENGER BAGS AND WAS SPRUNG. I ORDERED THE METROPOLIS ONLINE, AND AM THOROUGHLY PLEASED WITH ITS OVERALL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, AS WELL AS THE VAST AMOUNT OF THINGS I CAN EASILY FIT INTO IT, HASSLE-FREE. I ALSO ORDERED THE 17" LAPTOP CASE FROM CHROME, AND THAT IS TO DIE FOR AS WELL. AS A FEMALE, I WAS WORRIED ABOUT FINDING A BAG THAT WAS RATHER GENTLE ON MY BACK AND GAVE A GOOD SENSE OF EQUAL WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION. I AM IN ART SCHOOL AND AM STUDYING BOTH ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY, WHICH MEANS I AM LOADED WITH SUPPLIES TO LUG BACK AND FORTH TO CAMPUS EVERY WEEK.
***HERE'S A RUN DOWN OF WHAT I CAN FIT IN MY METROPOLIS BAG DEPENDING ON HOW I PACK THINGS, AND WHEN I NEED THEM:
1. MY LAPTOP AND CHARGER
2. MY DSLR CAMERA, FILM CAMERA, AND OCCASIONAL TRIPOD
3. MY SCHOOL BOOKS, NOTEBOOKS, PENCIL POUCH, AND ETC.
4. A SPARE CHANGE OF CLOTHING, A FACE TOWEL, AND A BATH TOWEL
5. MY MAKEUP KIT
6. SCHOOL LUNCH AND/OR GROCERIES
7. MY TEDDY BEAR, DAKOTA :)
8. WALLET, CELLPHONE, AND CHARGER
I LOVE THIS BAG, AND I WILL SAY THAT IT WILL ONLY WEIGH YOU DOWN AND THE STRAP WILL ONLY CUT INTO YOUR SHOULDER IF YOU OVERPACK. ;) OTHER THAN THAT, IT IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND DURABLE. DUE TO THE TARP LINING, IF STUFF HAPPENS TO SPILL IN MY BAG, IT TENDS TO BE A FAIRLY EASY CLEAN UP WITH MILD SOAP AND WARM WATER. I AM SET ON GETTING MY BOYFRIEND ONE NOW .
5/3/12 by Peter
Chrome bags are amazing! I got one after seeing my friend's and it's probably the best bag I have yet to have and only a few things I could complain about.
My favourite things so far is that it's extremely durable, stays flat when empty and even moderately full (unlike most backpacks and other messenger bags) which is great in tight streetcars/subways, and the buckle itself since it makes taking off and putting on the bag easy, again, in tight spots. However, I got one with the black buckle and it scuffs a lot quicker than you would think (if you care), my next bag I'll be ordering from chrome will have a silver buckle.
Though not a bad thing if it's what you're looking for, keep in mind how HUGE this bag is... 40 litres of capacity! To give you a visual, that's equal to TWENTY 2L bottles of coke! Once I put four 5 lbs bags of coffee beans in it with room to spare. I'm finding it a bit too big for daily use unless you really do carry your entire world with you everywhere you go. The small to medium size is a small jump but the medium to large is not...
But because of how great I find this bag, I will soon be buying a Citizen-sized Buckle Bag for daily use and reserve my Metropolis for when I'm going away for few days.

Metropolis Messenger Bag is in a league of its own. I was first introduced to Chrome Bags a few years ago by a friend and decided to give them a try. I purchased a Chrome Citizen and beat the hell out of it!! After years of abuse the bag looked brand new and held up beyond my exceptions. I became a father and ended up needing to carry a lot of stuff for the baby and myself. I ran out of room in the Citizen and decided to upgrade to the Metropolis. With the great experience I had with the Citizen bag I knew I would be in good hand with Chrome, but I was still surprised on how much more I loved the bigger bag. I’m always impressed on how much stuff you can haul. I slid a piece of yoga pad that I cut up in between the inner water proof liner and the bag to protect my back from sharp corners on boxes, etc.
This bag is expensive, but worth every penny!!!

Wow!!! Just bought my bag last weekend and went to thr store directly. I was very impressed with the varieties of product Chrome had to offer. But selected the Metropolis Buckle bag and I am amazed by the craftsmanship and quality!!! The bag beats all my other bags, especially my Northface bags. I can't praise enough about this bag, there is so much room and functionality!!! I know for a fact I will be buying another bag from Chrome sometime soon. I might even purchase a Citizen Buckle bag.
Thank you,
Mahaloboy!!!

For real. I wanted something to pack my pup around SF with. Glad I discovered this bag. Don't believe me? Check it: http://instagr.am/p/IDTPe-oYxC/

So it's comfortable, waterproof, durable, huge, and it kinda draws attention to the giant red buckle on your chest (if you're into that).
I've been on tour for 8 months travelling around Canada and this bag is used for everything. I mainly transport a butt-ton of books but it is used for clothing, books, random crap, music junk, just about anything that needs transported. It is absolutely solid on a bike. Waaaay better than a backpack because it's tighter and more comfortable. The random pockets on the sides are sweet for carrying things that need to be grabbed more frequently than just tossing them in the bag itself..
One complaint. I'm a sweaty person... Having such a huge bag means I put a lot into it. Which means I sweat more. But that's my fault and isn't really a problem with the bag, just the owner being a sweaty overpacker. So no loss of points to the bag.
Anyway buy it it's worth it. I know Chrome is a faddish company but who really cares if you get judged for having one? It's worth it as long as you use it for what it is intended, which is carrying craploads of stuff comfortably and efficiently and never having to worry about the bag getting destroyed by daily use.

This bag is exactly what I was looking for! Not only is it tough and rain-proof, which are both musts, but it holds A LOT. I can stash my work gear, a rain coat, sweater and book and this bag and it doesn't balloon like other smaller messengers I've owned in the past. Of course I love the bottle holders on the inside of the bag as well--very clever and useful appointments. This was my first Chrome bag and I can now say, 8 months later, that I won't buy anything but Chrome again for my messenger/backpack needs.
3/2/12 by Gwen
I use it on my 37miles bikeride to work 3 out of 5 days during the workweek. It is huge, I can fit practically my life in it. I haul clothes(jeans-t shirt-sweater-underwear & shoes) towels, soap, shampoo, lunch pack and a bottle of water and still have room to spare. Own a ranchero backpack as well so was already convinced of the superior Chrome quality. Even fully loaded up and weighing well over 10-12 kilo it's still amazingly comfy to wear on my bike.
2/18/12 by Dameian
I've had my Metro for about a month now, with absolutely no complaints. It's gigantic, but that's a good thing. I have a Klean Kanteen, text books, laptop, spare shirt/pants/socks/shoes, and grooming products in it with room left over! It's built fantastically and I absolutely love it.
it..just has so much room for... ACTIVITIES! :)

I have owned a chrome metropolis for a while now and love it. It expands to carry anything I have toted a Technics 1200 mk5 , an apple computer, and an hp envy 100, and a 24 pack of beer,(on seprante occasions) to name a few larger items. It will carry a load of laundry and almost anything else you want. great bag and never hand any problems with it. The only bad thing I would say is that all the douch hipster wannabes seem to love this bag so it has kinda destroyed this company's reputation and Chrome will forever be thought of as a 2010ish fad. My best advice would be if you are serious about biking buy a local bag that won't date you to the big hipster boom of 2010.
2/1/12 by Jaimie
For such a long time (long being a few months), I had been going back and forth between sizes. Considering I'm about 5'5 I didn't know if I could handle the Metropolis...well, I can. It's absolutely perfect for a weekend bike trip and it feels like it hugs you. I might get the mini just to use for daily commute to class and work, but this will definitely remain my industrial-no-fail bag that contains my life schtuff.
1/30/12 by Ray.
I've had this bag for a little over 2 years now and its just as tough as it was on day one. It can hold anything you can imagine, I usually carry 3 college textbooks, an accordion folder, 4 notebooks, a MacBook, 3 apples, and a change of clothes. Just to test it, I've put 4 25# bags of rock salt in it, and although it was impossible to ride with, it all fit and the bag held up nice. If you need to carry an ungodly amount of shit, or even just a few things, this is definitely the bag to consider.

I've had this bag for close to a year now, and it works great. I do a lot of walking (for those of you who might be looking for a walking review) and it rarely feels heavy. The padding is great, and really makes the bag comfortable. If I have a lot of stuff that's heavy, my shoulder can get a bit tired if I am standing without moving for a while (like on the L). The quality is great, and the waterproof tarp works wonders. There is barely any sign of wear, after constant use in all elements. It is really easy to take off and put on in a flash. Of course, there is the little problem of friends with chrome bags challenging you to see who can press the other's button first, but that is enjoyable. And, the colors (I have black and orange) look great, and the orange hasn't faded. Because you can fold out the inner lining, it is really useful to do a yearly clean on. I never run out of room for stuff, and the accessories pouch is a must: it makes carrying phone and L tickets really easy, as well as keeping your phone or wallet from getting wet. If this bag ever breaks, I'm getting another chrome, because the quality and usefulness is amazing. You get what you pay for: you can spend twenty dollars on a bag, which will be uncomfortable, fray quickly, and leak; or you can buy this, and be happy for a long, long time. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quality bag.

The metropolis is hands down the best bag of any design I've ever worn. It's uber comfortable even when loaded thanks to the thick padded shoulder and the awesome way it rests on the back. When it's empty, you hardly even notice it's on.
As a 5'7" 155lbs. female I was slightly daunted by the size at first but this thing is now permanently attached to me. Never leave home without it. And don't balk at the price, you'll never need or want to buy another bag again. It's a quality product that is virtually indestructible, you're saving yourself money and hassle.

I had my camo pattern metropolis bag for close to a decade. I had it and about every piece of my life stolen recently, and when I told the insurance company how much it was worth and how old it was, they couldn't put a value on it.
Was this because it had depreciated that much? Because it looked as new as the day I bought it. It had been through many a terrible Ohio winter and beating summer and every stitch was still in place.
No, I'd like to think it was because it had aged like fine art. The pattern isn't available anymore, so it had to enter the realm of "priceless".
These days I'm an engineer and carry around two kids in my SUV, but the bag was a piece of me. It was the one thing I owned that I could look at and have good memories of what defines me. A marriage come and gone, two beautiful kids, times outside floating through traffic, and trips all around the country with nothing but my Metropolis bag. I'd never owned something this nice and am looking forward to getting another someday.

i did not have the money to buy a new bag, (being a student). But the bag i have is the best bag for anything i have ever owned. i use it for holding books to and from school on both a bike and subway. it is also an amazing bag for city travel.

I commute by bike from work to college to photo shoots and there is nothing like knowing your equipment is safe and sound on your back. I don't have any negative feedback it's a great product. It's a must if your a avid biker.

I bought this bag over the summer after hearing many good things about Chrome bags. My boyfriend has one that has lasted him 5 years now. I lived in London for a year now and I carry it with me everywhere I go. Riding my bike all throughout the city I haven't had an issue yet with it slipping and sliding all over the place like my last bag. I even take this bag on my horseback riding trips to the countryside and Scotland. This bag can carry everything anywhere. I love it!

Best bag ever I love it, everybody should have one, I want to buy a thousand of them, like I said best bag ever.

yap. a full sized duralast car battery for an is300. me + battery - car to autozone = bag + bike. exchanged old battery for new under warranty.. and rode back. 2 miles each way. no it wasn't comfortable. being an ex messenger this was by far the most taxing thing i've had to carry.. on my back and on the bag..
autozone didn't see me walk in w/ the battery in the bag... after exchanging batteries... bag went to the floor.. opened it up.. and prepared to lift the battery into the bag...
"that's gonna bust your bag" -salesman
"no it won't"... and off i went.

Damn this bag is really huge i can hold a lt of stuff in this bag when i go biking it feels good while riding it does not move also its tough af i was in the rain and nothing got through it and my bag has tooken a beating im in love with this bag is weatherproof and can hold up at its worst moments i definantly buy another one!

I'm a bike messenger, so I use my metropolis bag everyday & sometimes in pouring rain. It's durable, water-proof, and everything it states in the description. I chose yellow/purple because it's my favorite complimentary color scheme, and because I thought it would give better visibility at night, as I only work during nights. Here's something you probably didn't know. These bags, as any bag would when riding in such harsh conditions, get extremely dirty. So if you're looking for a pretty bag with cool colors, you might want to think about how the color will turn shady.

Stuff in my bag today:
Wool business suit, oxford shirt, tie. Leather shoes, black socks. Sneakers, cotton socks. Lunch. 15" Macbook pro. Computer cables and shit. Bike tools and ibuprofen. Pens, pencils, stupid stuff I threw in there and forgot about. T-shirt behind all that stuff so my back doesn't get poked during 10 mile ride in the rain. Cotton Dickies shorts. Apple. Banana. V8 juice.
I took this bag through airport security and customs, full of the same kind of junk, to Frankfurt, Venice, Kotor, Koper, Dubrovnic, Athens, and Istanbul. And back. NO hassles with the buckle and stuff.
If you really need to carry stuff, and you really want to keep it dry, and you really ride a bike - everywhere - buy this bag. No hassles, no nonsense, no bull.
10/27/11 by LEVI
Just picked up this new bag, had an old jansport backpack for 10 years which died. After much thought and planing strolled down to my local bike shop in San Diego. This bag is huge!!!! I can fit all my stuff from my old bag including my old bag in it!!!! Man i love this chrome bag!
10/11/11 by Daniel Apt
The only thing which I don't like about the bag is that it's tough to carry heavy loads. All the weight is on one shoulder, and the cross chest strap doesn't succeed in spreading the weight. Also the lack of any padding isn't so nice when caring large cardboard boxes/packages.
Nevertheless it's a great bag. The bag is extremely waterproof. The contents of the bag have never gotten wet. The reflective materials are a big plus. Its size is large enough for almost every package I've encountered.
9/28/11 by Elizabeth
I bought this bag to use while I backpacked around Europe for a week before I went to a course I took in Germany this summer. I was not sure at the time if this was the right bag for me, because I was worried that it wouldn't be big enough. but it was amazing, I was able to carry everything I needed and a little extra. It's a gorgeous bag, and now I brag all the time about what a good decision I made. =)
9/12/11 by Enping
It hauls everything, and feels really great on my back.
The only gripe I have is the rust-prone buckle. I operate in a high humidity environment, and the bag is more often than not soaked in persperation (yes as gross as it sounds). This translates to the bag going to shower with me after each ride, for a good water wash of the contact areas. The result is a buckle that is quite much corroded with rust. I have since taken pains to keep it as dry as possible.
Still a great bag after 3 years of constant abuse in the sun, rain and my sweat. Though it now looks quite worn due to dirt, possibly mold, and rust.
Another small area I can pick on would be the 2 closing straps for the top flap. + points for them being reflective, but the strap material also tends to stick to the rough hooks of the velcro, and have turned hairy. Need some creative work on my part to keep them out of the way.

I currently own the other 2 sizes. The smaller went with me to NYC as my day bag. The middle size I carry everyday to work, as a lawyer it is perfect and holds legal files. This bag was purchased specifically to use as a carryon for my trip to NYC. It was perrfect for holding my computer in your sleeve, magazines, papers, office supplies, your pouches for my jewelry, wallet, and makeup. Still had room for more if needed. Had we lost power during the storm, it would have been used as an ice chest. The padded strap and release are perfect even for us girls and glides easily through security and onto the plane. Great product as everything you have to sell is! Your products are affordably priced and can be used for anything and everything you can imagine. Thanks!

i admit, when i saw 160 bucks for a bag i was like... hell no!! after reading reviews and what not.. i figured why not.. i deserve it.. so i bought one.. wow! awesome.. the seat belt buck is great! come in handy a lot.. i loaded it with beer a few times.. and still remains comfortable.. durability.. great! just sucks that i can't have my chrome mac-book cover fit in it like how it does on the new ones.. but other than that.. great bag!

Quality is off the charts. Bought online and in the store in NYC, and both times easy-breezy. Store is very cool. And they have cool free stuff. :) One thing I use mine for is riding a motorcycle. Have tried everything, and this bag, hands down, is the best thing on a bike. You don't know its there. And the more you have in it, the better it settles on your back. Top notch. Someone thought about this bag a while during the design. I own three, just because they're cool.
8/20/11 by matt
I bought this bag instead of another two strap backpack to hold everything i need in the day such as clothes, laptop, food everything. The first time i used it was while i was riding my bike in the pouring rain. I was worried it would ruin the bag but after i took it home it looked and felt like it was still brand new. I actually had to throw out my shoes the rain was so bad, and my bike was barely holding up as well. I've ran this thing across pavement and it holds up as well as carrying anything i might need in the day. No doubt worth the price it will last as long as you do. this bag will go to hell and back. Good job chrome and i'll no doubt continue to be a customer

I've been commuting everywhere via mass transit and cycle for the last year, and decided to check out other messenger bags to replace my Timbuk2. Aside from being too small, the Timbuk2 would cut into my shoulder due to not being padded enough, nor being ergonomically correct. I was very reluctant to spend big money on a bag, but it has proven to be an AMAZING investment. As other reviews have stated, this bag is palatial; I can easily fit what they describe in their 'use' tab. My typical haul is a change of clothes, my lunch (in a padded lunch box/carrier) a 14" laptop, files, folers, clipboard, and grooming essentials as well.
Even with all of this, I have plenty of room. As I said, I'm not sure I'll need a bag ever again. It is the bag to rule all other bags!
8/20/11 by Douglas
I own all three sizes of these bags, and I do a ton of traveling. All of these bags are simply _the best_. Combine them with a laptop sleeve, and you've got a the perfect setup. Is it wrong for me to wish that they weren't so durable so that I'd have an excuse to buy more?
8/16/11 by Ken K
I ordered my Metropolis bag in 2007 and has seen daily use since then. This bag has gone through seasons in Massachusetts and it has survived it all. I finally decided to process a warranty claim as the inside tarp lining was getting a bit frayed. I receive an email from Chrome saying how they can not fix it......but will replace the bag.
Well, I mistakenly picked the wrong size for the replacement but even that wasn't a big deal and Chrome came through again and am waiting on replacement #2 as i write this review.
There really isn't a better bag out there as far as durability goes, i work in IT and carry about 9 lbs. of gear that is carried every single day, this bag just works without fail. Being in IT, i carry a ton of electronic gear, well it is certainly rain and snow proof as I have never had a corrosion issue with my equipment.
If you are deciding between this bag and the competition and carry water sensitive gear, get this bag, it simply protects it better.

I bought this bag to commute to school and around Boston in all of the elements. Really solid construction and has held up against the elements and kept my stuff dry. However, after 7 months of riding and walking with heavy books (calc, chem, etc.) the load is wreaking havok on my right shoulder internally, causing ligament strain. I am looking into a Chrome backpack to accomplish the same commute, but to spread the weight better. I love the versatility of the bag and it's devilishly good looks, but I can't use it for heavy loads. It will just have to sit side-line for light-duty jobs or post-grad "career" pusuits.
8/7/11 by Sam
the bag is waterproof and tough, you can feel the high quality of the all the used ingredients and it is still produced in the usa!! yeah!!! but i missed a bit of comfort like an extra shoulder- strap or at least a padding between back and bag. but great work guys
7/27/11 by Stuart
I have had this bag for only two days now iand its the best choice i have made in a long time, it literally carrires everything i need from my clothes to my books. Seriously buy this buy if you think you need it you will not be dissapointed!

I got this for Channukah this past year and have used it pretty much every day since then and cant imagine living without it now. I used to have a Crumpler but found that it wasnt great at actually keeping rain out. With this bag, Ive had it in heavy downpairs and all my stuff (including an expensive MacBook and a camera) were bone dry. I routinely haul a couple six packs of beer in this thing and have lots of room to spare. While it has some grime coated on, I feel like the bag will never actually give in. It will last a lifetime. My only complaint would be the lack of back padding. Different stuff digs into you but if you pack a sweatshirt in the back, it solves that problem. One piece of advice to people considering buying one: I bought it in black (with white stripe) so that dirt wouldnt show. But in the summer, the large black bag attracts tons of heat and you get hot and sweaty as hell riding around with this thing. If I were to buy again, Id get a lighter colour.

I have used this bag for six months now, and like so many other reviews, it simply is the best! From the daily trek to school, to shopping, to laundry, I have ridden with this bag in extreme snow, sub-zero temps (down to -15 degrees), and the rare but torrential Colorado downpour. Chrome makes very, very good products and is a great company! Great job guys!
6/23/11 by Sam
This bag is palatial, I mean if you carry around a weeks worth of shit you still have room for anything. The quality on this bag is pretty good upon first owning. Plan on using it for shopping and college life in the up coming semester. Very excited too use this bag.

I'll keep this short. I started a job as a messenger a couple of years ago and needed a new bag. I bought a cheap bag and a few months later found myself buying another cheap replacement.... should have just sallyed up and bought this bag to start with. So comfortable, holds everything I could ever need, you can pretty much make anything work in this bag, even hydro packs. after two years of everyday use, my bag has started to show some wear and tear but every buckle and strap still works flawlessly.
great job guys

I was riding to meet a friend for a beer the other night when it started to rain. I was raining so hard and my bag was soaked. I had an expensive digital camera along with other expensive items. When i got inside the bar i looked to see if my stuff was ruined. Nothing was damaged!! I could not believe it! I will always buy chrome! Thanks

I've had a Timbuk2 for the last 6 years. Figuring it had run it's course, I wanted to look for another bag. My uncle works at a bike shop (He knows his messengers) and going back to him he suggested a Chrome bag. The moment after I looked it up I could tell I would like it better. While I haven't tried it out on my bike, yet, I already like how it balances with heavier loads. Being a short-statured female, my other bag didn't really work with my body. The Chrome Bag? Words do not describe the perfection. Completely looking forward to my time with this bag.

Love the Metropolis, use it for everything every day. Bike commute to work, have a full rainsuit at the ready with room to spare. Carry a mini tarp in the lining at all times, great for soggy grass picnics. Took it snowshoeing, of course it kept everything dry, however by the end of the day my shoulder was pretty worn out. In retrospect I would have considered a chrome backpack-style bag for weight distribution reasons. Minuscule quibbles: The stitching on the 'secret pocket' velcro failed after just a couple months, and the squeeze clip on the stabilizer strap got stepped on, rendering this crucial strap useless (any suggestions how best to replace this clip outside of flying to the nearest store?). Other than that, I sing this bag's praises from up on high.
6/7/11 by Daniel
I love this bag!!!, Chrome just proved it self as the most reliable bag in the Universe. Me and my friends where swimming today when it started to rain. I stuffed everything into my Metropolis bag. We rode our bikes in heavy rain and high winds but this bag kept all my stuff dry and safe from the elements. Other then everyone being soaked to the bone wet this bag has proved itself as the most awesome bag every I LOVE CHROME, nothing got wet or damaged
THANK YOU CHROME!!!!!

I used to make fun of this bag when my brother first got it. I thought it was silly. After he had his for about two years he got a bigger one and gave me his old one. Now I understand. I got this bag two years old, and it was completely undamaged. I am a hard user of my bag, cramming it full of stuff and biking it all around Corvallis. My laptop has never gotten wet in it. In fact nothing has ever gotten wet in my chrome bag (well there was this one time when I put a soda in my bag that I was *sure* I has closed...) This bag has an unbelievable amount of storage space, never ever gets wet, and as far as I can tell, could withstand a missile attack. Stop reading this review and buy one already! I plan on buying the next size up on my Birthday!

I read the other reviews of it keeping things dry and good for grocery and errand runs. This bag is tough as nails, takes a daily beating from me and hardly a scuff. My go to bag for work and leisure travel. And touching on water proof I live at the Oregon Coast I ride to and from work about 5 miles rain or shine [ more rain!] My work clothes and paperwork and LAPTOP stay dry! I just flip it closed and go. Awesome product quit reading about it and get it.

Received my new metropolis this week and it was definitely worth every penny and more. Absolutely ingenious design and more comfortable than any bag I have ever owned. Will be recommending to everyone from now on! Thanks Chrome!

5 years and this bag is still going strong, only complain is that the underside of the flap is cracking, but that may be because i live in a really hot country, Singapore. Overall im really happy with my purchase!

I bought this bag about a week before my trip to Italy and Greece, and when I got it, I looked at it and was iffy about it.
After two days of use at school I was loving it. It held my books, lunch, hoodie, and still had room for more.
Now for the trip it was even more handier. Everyone either forgot a bag/backpack, or brought one that was too small. Never-the-less they asked me to hold their stuff. I had my jacket, about 10-15 gifts, drinks, and more stuffed inside. It took a lot to fill it up.
Overall this bag has been fantastic, and I recommend it to anyone.

I defy you to find me a better bike bag than this one. The design is impeccable and ergonomically well thought out. It is incredibly durable, water proof, and also looks cool. It’s made in the USA, which is great, and has tons of places to put everything you need. The size is big enough that I can carry everything I have at home when I commute (including toiletries, hair dryer, shoes, clothes, etc). I’m not a low maintenance gal and this bag suits my every need. I’ve told all my friends they absolutely have to get one of these for themselves.

I picked one up on sale to replace my old crumpler that I had out grown. I didn't think any bag could best it, boy was I wrong! I commute by bike as often as I can, and living in Minnesota you need to be ready for everything. With this bag I can. Snow gear, rain gear, hoodie, extra socks, shirt, shoes, and whatever else you might need for a spring commute with room for lunch yet too!!!

I can't say enough about Chromes bags and riding in wet weather.
Its materials are rock solid and my stuff always stays dry. 1000 denier Cordura and truck tarp is serious stuff, that many other manufacturer won't bother with.
I've owned other bags, and nothing compares to Metropolis, when it comes to durability. This bag is worth every penny, because it will out last the cheaper bags many times over.

I'll admit I was a little skeptical when I was first considering a Chrome bag. You just can't help but wonder, "how can so many people all be right about something?". I have a closet full of bags I use in my career as a photographer, some of which cost much more than any Chrome bag, but I've never really been happy with any of them. What I really wanted was something that could fit everything I needed for an ultra portable, complete location lighting set-up.
Enter the Metropolis Large. It is large, even compared to my 6'3" frame BUT it can fit two compact 8 foot light stands, 2 umbrella swivels, 2 flashes, 3 pocket wizards, assorted grip gear, a collapsible reflector, 1 camera body, 3 lenses, batteries, and the straps can hold a collapsible softbox and a 64" umbrella. If you're a working photographer and you need more than that strapped to your back, buy two and get an assistant. Oh, and it doubles as a grocery getter; I can easily fit a week's worth of groceries in there and walk a couple of miles comfortably.
Worth every penny and more. It just holds what I need, keeps it comfortable on my back, and stays nice and dry. Alien archeologists will find mine someday, perfectly intact, next to the dust that used to by my bones.

This bag is the best. I had, many years ago wanted it but put it off for so long. My friend was selling an old one and said it was "too" big. I loved it and loved the size. But I waited and 3 years later, I decided to finally get it. I am glad I waited the whole time because the improvements from the old bag.
PROS: I love the size. I am a commuter from Orange County NY into Manhattan for class 4 days a week. I live out of my bag and carry everything. I am a Massage Student and I have thick towels and sheets with endless paper work from my classes on top of notebooks and lunch. During the winter I also had a blanket, I fit all my school stuff along with 3 days worth of clothing and my hair products. It fits comfortably. I also fit my laptop in it and it expands and has the hidden compartment, which is great!
It's waterproof, and truly is honest in that manner. I have been caught in the rain many times now and none of my paper work gets wet from the rain. But when I do spill something from my meals in my bag, it only stays in one section of the bag, so easy clean up! It's also strong and great quality.
CONS: Nothing too specific, but price if you really want to get into minor ones. In all honesty, if you have this bag for a year, it pays for it self.
There is no reason not to buy it. If you're commuting and or traveling, this bag is a must. If you don't carry much or plan on doing any traveling often, then get the medium. You can for your life in here. I am 5'3" and this bag fits dandy.
Plus, I went to the NYC store and the team there is great, polite, and listens to fantastic tunes. They gave me great detail about the Pasha jacket I had bought. They also provide a good conversation!

I've had my Metropolis bag since 2007 and LOVE IT! I use it for school, the gym, hiking, groceries, EVERYTHING! You can clean it inside and out. That thing has been to hell and back. It's worth EVERY PENNY! The shoulder strip is showing some wear and will probably need to be replaced in a year or so, but other than that, its great. I need to get another one!
4/29/11 by Jonathan
Pros: Amazing quality.
Neutral: This bag is HUGE. Like duffel bag big. If you don't need a duffel bag you can carry on your bike, you should go for the smaller size.
Cons: Price is painful.
4/14/11 by Lennon
I bike commute to work and ride to the gym 5 days a week. As I have a service industry schedule, this means I cover well over 20 miles of hard urban riding a day, 7 days a week. Rain or shine, cold and heat. What car?
My Metropolis bag has never failed me. Not once. It easily holds work and gym clothes, two full water bottles, a book or two and gym shoes. With room to spare. Every damn day. But when its on, it never feels full like many other bags I've owned do. I've used it to do Christmas shopping, pick up building supplies from Home Depot, haul laundry, whatever. No matter how much stuff I have in it, I always seem to find room for more. The above photos showing its storage capacity are seriously low balling it's capabilities.
I endo'd once while wearing this bag, landed on my back and skidded for several yards. The bag took the brunt of the impact and was the skid surface. You'd never know it if you saw the bag. Not a single mark.
It's not the biggest bag in the world but it's close. If I needed that, though, I'd have gotten a Berlin. I do need the toughest bag in the world and this certainly fits the bill.
Worth every dime.

Let's start with the bag, fantastically well made, and once I fugred out how the straps worked - very comfortable. I love the no nonsense and prcatical design - built to last and boy can you pack some stuff in there. Service - excellent, the email responses were quick and friendly and delivery to the "real" land downunder was super quick.
3/25/11 by Matt Yee
This bag is built extremely well, doesn't seem like it will fall apart, and the straps that hold it in place are very sturdy and won't come undone as you're riding. The bag I had before this was a Timbuk2, and while the T2 is put together with considerably fewer options than a Chrome and a somewhat sketchy plastic strap quick adjustment clamp, it still served me well for almost a decade. The Metropolis is like the Timbuk2, but better; it has a host of features that are well thought-out and well-placed. Nothing on this bag smacks of trendiness.
2 Complaints.
- The new black/grey color schemes I can't really get with. Not sure what prompted you guys to get rid of all the colors you previously offered. But while black and grey are good for bags that see daily use and get dirty, black is our enemy in terms of heat and visibility. They provide such a big visual profile in the back - why not make it more visible? The back flap should be littered with some kind of reflective material.
- I know it's your trademark, but I dislike the car button buckle. Drunk people love to press it and considering the infrequency with which i use it, it doesn't make sense to add that much weight to the bag on top of carrying everything else we're carrying.
Other than those 2 points I'd give this bag 5 stars. Thank you for making a quality product.
3/22/11 by Mikey Muirhead
I will never use another bag again. I have both the citizen and the metropolis bag. The metro is the biggest bag in the world. I bike around all day with that thing at close to full capacity and it has never been uncomfortable. It's durable and trendy. That bag is my baby.

was a messenger for a year in century city ca and needed a solid messenger bag as a backpack grew overly irritating after a week. i mainly worked off of the fox lot, delivering various forms of media to the surrounding production companies, checks to the big named agencies (wm, caa, endeavor, etc), and legal documents to the surroundin' law firms (gordan dunn, omelveny myers yada yada).
my morning take at 9am was a legal file box w/ 20+ of vhs like tapes in hard blockbuster like containers. the corners were sharp, and they were never quite comfortable on my back. but the bag handled them like a charm. people were always amazed at how much I could stuff into my bag. i'd silence secretaries once i started filling my bag w/ whatever they assumed was two trip worthy.
a good example of it's weather proofness was on a pickup from barnes and noble. it was cold, raining, and NOT FUN.. yet. i had to pick up 20+ companies of some random hardcover book. they all barely managed to fit in my bag. when you fill it to the top, sometimes you have to be created how you secure the flap down as the tiedowns won't reach their usual buckles at the bottom. nonetheless, i made it back to the lot, w/o a drip of water, wear and tear, or damage on the books.
my only complaint is the fraying of the seatbelt strap. my method was always to loosen the strap, then swing it around when accessing the contents of my bag. and swinging and tighting back up when finished. after doing 50+ times a day of this habit.. over the course of a whole year, the strap has become frayed. although still 100% functional and reliable.
also, the upper truck tarp lining on the crease of the flap has become worn and cracked in certain areas probably from closing it over sharp and abrasive things (those hard plastic vhs boxes etc).
the only thing this bag won't handle are freakin gift baskets... which usually sit nicely on top of ur handlebars squeezed between your arms.. heh...

I just received this bag in the mail. I strapped it to my back and went and got groceries. I will just tell you what I fit into this AMAZING bag. 1 gallon of vanilla silk, 1 bundle of carrots, 1 bag of potatoes, 64 oz. naked juice, 1 box of cereal, two boxes of granola bars, 1 bag of apples, 1 bag of granola, 1 bike chain, 1 loaf of bread (on top). I will tell you one thing.... This bag is bomb proof!! I stuffed everything inside, threw it on my back, and hit the road. It didn't bog me down, and it ALL FIT!! I have never been so impressed with a product like this... EVER! I want to thank this company for all the hard work and ingenuity that goes into their products.... By the way it was pouring rain. My stuff was dry, and my bread wasn't smashed.
Cheers,
Taylor

I got this bag several weeks ago and decided now to write a review on it. I needed a bag for school and I didnt want to get a knapsack like some H.S kid, I wanted something different while going to campus. I had a Old navy messenger bag which was killing my shoulder with the amount books I had to carry. So I did some reseach on messenger bags and decided to go to the Chrome store in NYC. Now I looked at Timbuk2 and thought it was an ok bag, but when i walked into the Chrome store i was blown away with all the bags they had in store. they even had several sowing machines towards the back in plain view with an assortment of fabrics incase you wanted to have a one of a kind bag made in what the store clerk said in just 3hrs...wow.. anyways after testing the bag out on site, they have a desk with telephone books taped together that you can fit in the bag to try on. I did just that, which I must say sold me right then and there. I bought the Black and red Metroplis and I think i made the best investment with this purchase. This bag can and will handle everything that you put in it! Oh and ask them about the secret pocket if you dont know about it, its freaking awsome!

Awesome bag from chrome! Love the whole construction of the bag, plus i got it in a very cool reflective edition. it white though, and gets dirty easy so i kinda regret that. as a student that often bikes to, from, and recreationaly, this is a fantastic bike bag. im of slighty smaller size (5 foot 9 about and 140 lbs) so the bag can often be thrown around my back while running, but while biking, even on flat sprints, stays put very well. my one complaint is that there is no midium-large size. this is just perfectly over the limit of what i want, but still a great bag. just purchased a yalta in hopes of finding something better for school. Loving chrome stuff!

Such a great bag, it wasn't kidding when it said you can fit your whole life inside..Only draw back is that the second storage area, behind where the zipper is but before the main area...there is no separation..I have small things they disappear to the bottom of the bag..Not a huge issue, just annoying lol. But this bag is still awesome..It even got named Lola..on account that it is like its own entity

From laundry to shopping. This bag handles it all. Worth every cent!

I was recently arrested for a D.U.I. and I'm riding my bicycle a lot more. I found these bags and thought it would fit perfectly for my daily routine of going to school/work/gym. I stand at 5'9'' and weigh 205 with a 42'' chest. This bag fits very comfortably when maxed out with 3 text books, a change of cloths, 3 1'' notebooks, and a 15'' laptop. I bought the citizen first and it was way to small. When the bag was maxed out, the buckle was sitting right on my color bone which was very uncomfortable. Overall if you're my size and you're planning on packing like me then I'd recommend you purchase the Metropolis.
1/14/11 by Basilios
I have two chrome bags. The metropolis and the mini metro.
Both are great but I love the metropolis the most.
I've had the bag for about 7 years now and the past 2 I've spent living out of this bag. I've taken this bag all over the world with me and it held up great. The lining holds up great in the rain and keeps my clothes and electronics dry.
While traveling I've used only this bag and I can fit enough clothing to last a month or two easily while backpacking.
Of course the bag is built tough enough to withstand anything. I've had a few slips while hiking and been caught and helped up by only the bag, if it wasn't so strong the bag would have for sure ripped and I could have fallen and been hurt badly. Or even worse.
I know this review is long but if you need a bag that you can use for anything like biking to work or hiking in the mountain this is the bag for you.
Holds anything with room to spare. Also great for a 24 and a bag of ice;)

My Metro bag rocks. I am not a "messenger" I am not even really a "commuter" however I am someone who would like to ride into work a couple days a week to get some extra training miles back underneath me. My challenge was that I need to dress up everyday, sport coat, slacks, collared dress shirt, etc. I also don't want to cruise through the office in my cycling kit and try to explain myself to a million people (generally, younger guys who think somehow a cycling outfit is tied to some sexual preference) anyhow after much research I came upone Chrome Bags...almost pulled the trigger on another competing brand and thankful I didn't. Today was my first ride (16 miles) with my bag and suit, two large water bottles, coat hanger, agenda book, etc. and it rocked. I even threw my 3.5 year old into the bag at the store and she looked snug as a bug. Thank you Chrome, looking forward to many years of "commuting"!!

So here's the deal: this bag is my adventure pack and I do not leave the house or wherever it may be without it. I've taken my metropolis bag to the grocery store, long trips around the city, airports, and recently even the dense rainforests of Hawaii. I went to hawaii this winter and I brought it along as a carry on for the plane and it worked perfectly.
However the test began when I went for a full day hike in a rainy, palmy, humid, rainforest in Maui. I had all my photography equipment that was very water sensitive. It was raining constantly, my clothes were completely soaked, but miraculously the metropolis bag withstood the beating of nature, and none of my camera gear got wet. I was very impressed with the quality, as well as how much my bag was able to hold. I had my dslr, tripod, charger, cables, food, first aid box, and change of clothing which all fit inside snugly. I also take this bag out for longboard clubs at school. I can shove an extra board inside as well as med kits for my club.
Overall my metropolis is the most comfortable, stylish, and reliable bag I have ever owned, and if my bag is ever stolen or ripped (which I highly doubt unless I take a massive spill) I will definately get me another chrome bag.

I went to Disneyland recently and I was going to put all my friends' stuff in my bag since it was raining from the 20th to the 23rd in Southern California. On the day of my trip to Disneyland, I carried a Pook a Looz Plush, Mickey Mouse gloves, Mickey Mouse slippers, 2 purses, a Buzz Lightyear blaster, 3 figurines, spare shoes, and 4 wallets. At the end of the day not a single thing was wet. I even went to the wet zone for World of Color and although my body was soaking wet, everything inside wasn't! This bag is amazing. If you're the guy who your friends like to treat as a pack mule, get this bag, it'll make your life easier. Once you get one though, you have to learn how to watch your surroundings. My friends love to press the buckle when I'm not aware. This one incident left me with a chipped front tooth.

The only complaint I have with my Metropolis is that the chest strap doesn't extend more. Five more inches in length and it would be perfect. The stitching and build are excellent. The main compartment is amazing. The lack of organizing dividers is a blessing. I can stick my laptop and power supply, two 2.5'' thick textbooks, 4 70 page note books, big fat DJ headphones, calculator, and flash light in my bag and still have room. The side pockets are perfect for glasses cases and lenses. The giant zipper on the front pouch is super sturdy. The secret pouch is handy for a spare set of keys and my yo-yo. The pull out liner is great for stashing candy bars and other valuables. I also love the second set of clasps on the bottom of the bag. They're great for keeping the straps in check and keeping the clasp ends from getting stepped on and broken. They're also nice because i can stick my tripod in them and still open the front flap without having to undo the straps. I have walked across campus in Boulder when it is snowing and it has kept everything dry. And the icing on the cake is the car seat belt and buckle. It fits the motor head in me like a piston in a cylinder. It doubles as a super slick badge too. I have owned it for nearly a year now and i have felt naked without it since day one. I sort of want this one to wear out so I can get another one, but I don't think that will ever happen.

The first few seconds when you see and feel this bag, you can tell that it's made out of high quality materials and not some cheap crap like so many other backpacks made in China.
At first, this bag seemed small because it's folded and flat when it comes in the box, but when I opened it and tried it on, it took over half of my body! The size might be tremendous, but it is offset by the "coolness" of the look and usefulness. This bag literally fits the UPS box that it came in!
You should buy this bag in a limited edition color as I did, I got it in a white/black color and it looks awesome!
12/3/10 by Sumanth
hands down best bag ive ever used on a bike or in general. i used it for school/groceries/trips to the city/ life. works great in all aspects.
almost bought the citizen because i thought this was obnoxiously big, but its really not. when you fill it up with stuff it becomes manageable, and you wont kick yourself when you need extra space because you will never need it. ive had 3 textbooks, 12 pack of pop (the long fridgepack kind), jacket, mittens, windbreaker, helmet, and several notebooks in here at once. it was about 70 percent full. pack it right and you can hold quite a bit. padded strap is comfortable, and although that shiny buckle is a target for your friends to press, its qutie convenient when you are wearing a helmet and you need to take the bag off.
tip: people complained about the lack of back padding. do one of the following: 1) man up. 2) stuff a hoodie or something between whatever you have in there and the backside of the bag. softens it up real well.
am strongly considering gifting one of these to a friend. and im cheap, so thats sayin something. take it from a cheap guy, this was worth it.
12/1/10 by Steve
Rode in the rain with it a lot. Never a drop inside. Was the best all purpose bag I've ever owned. I switched up to a more backpacky bag and am now switching back.
My only complaint is the not so much with Chrome so much as assholes pushing that button. I love the buckle. I don't love a broken laptop.

When I first moved from Brooklyn NY to Portland OR 5 years ago ..I found out real quick that I needed a solid water proof bag ... And one day while walking to work in the rain my bag all wet I meet a guy with a chrome bag he explained how it was water proof, durable, and were I can find one.... The next day I picked up a citizen black on white ... Since then this bag has been with me almost everyday .... For 2 years in Portland OR 2years back in Brooklyn and now in California this bag has been thrown droped steeped on even chased a guy down that tried to still my grocery bag and run off... with my chrome bag strapped on I was able to catch up quick and the thief droped my bag and gave me the finger.....i might have to pick up the metropolis as a christmas gift to myself and put my citizen in a showcase in the garadge ...I can't imaging any other bag strapped to my back I'm chrome for life and the best part of this bag is that it's made right here in the USA I'm all about buying American...

This bag is impressive, and I simply love the living daylights out of it. I live in Portland, OR and if you don't know anything about this city, one thing is certain; it is raining 75% of the time. In fact, it even started snowing a little today! And this bag has kept everything I've put in it quite dry. Not only is everything kept dry, but everything sits well on my back as I ride my bike around town. Often times I hear from people that this bag isn't quite as comfortable off the bike as it is off, and while that may be true, it isn't so uncomfortable that it becomes a problem (for me at least). It's just like any other messenger I've used when off the bike. On the bike, it is unparalleled! Love this bag, and recommend it to anyone.

I've been searching for the perfect bag for seemingly all my life. My wife can attest to my many experiments much to her chagrin. When I found Chrome I knew I was getting warmer. When I saw the Metropolis I knew I was hotter than hell. This bag is perfect. It fits whatever I want whenever I want. It handles the commute, the weekend, the grocery store, the park with the family, and everything in between. I was a bit concerned about how it would feel on my back, but it fits great and sits just right. It's perfect for the bike, train, long board, car, Muni, whatever. If you get this bag you won't be disappointed.
Special shout out to the staff at the SF store too. Super friendly, very helpful, thorough and they know when to give you info and when to sit back and let you try stuff out without getting in the way.
Chrome bags. F*#k yeah!

I am on my second Metropolis - the first one was yellow / red (beautiful), but for "work" I need to tone down and now I am all black. This bag is phenomenally functional, comfortable, and reliable. It has on my back for over 50,000 miles flying in and out of airports, on planes, trains, buses, cabs, bikes, and on foot this year alone...this was it's "year two". I could not imagine not having this bag as support. It is frequently full of clothes, laptop (support peripherals), books, glasses, travel kit, and sustenance for sideline emergencies.
I have added a foam pad between the water-proof lining and the outside for undetectable yet amazing comfort in travel. Casual or in a suit - it works every time and makes me look good. Thank you CHROME!!!
10/21/10 by Asher
This thing is amazing. I've had mine for three years, and it's a gift from god. It holds two changes of clothes (my work and rehearsal clothes, wearing my cycling clothes) a bunch of props, a bunch of scripts, a laptop, a dozen banh mi, a portable dj control surface, a boom box, a DSLR, and a Sony HDR-FX7 all at once, and comfortably. There's no padding, but the art of packing yourself some padding is one you learn quickly. I'm upgrading from the Metro to the Berlin because I'm also using it on my motorcycle, and at highway speeds the lack of second shoulder strap can cause air to get in some weird places that can mess with your balance. But, if you're biking at less than 50 miles an hour, it's amazing. I can't recommend this thing enough.
A Word of warning: If and When you take it to a place where there have been people drinking, one of them, like a magpie, will be drawn to the shiny button in the middle of your chest, and will be overwhelmed with the urge to poke it. The cross-strap will prevent it from falling off, but you just have to beware.

Had a lot of bags, and this one is the best. I have the al orange metro bag, and it's the best. Flat out, nothing else compares to this beast of a bag. It's comfy, its durable, i use it to carry my juggling and magic equipment to gigs, and my clothes to my day job. I'm thinking of becoming a bike transporter for the mob, and could probably carry a human in it if I had to. Why would anyone own anything else? Probably because they are insane. This bag is the best. Oh, utility strap? genius. Bottle opener? Brilliant. If I had to choose between my first born child and this bag, it would be really tough. I mean, can my first born comfortably carry two full gallon jugs of whiskey and still have room for a change of clothes, my ulock, notebook, and still be comfortable? Food for thought. Buy it. Buy one now, or I'll transport you in mine.
10/7/10 by Ryan
I really love the metropolis, it's large enough to fit all the things I need for work plus a change of clothes when I'm commuting by bike. Also, it really is waterproof, I've commuted two winters with this bag (and winters in Switzerland mean really really shitty weater!) and my stuff never got wet. Plus, with the bag across your back you can still turn your head quite easily to watch out for cars without your helmet bumping against the bag. Something that for example Ortlieb bags really suck at. As far as I'm concerned, the downside of this bag is that the single-strap design is quite uncomfortable off the bike, especially when you're hauling heavy stuff. So in summary: If the bike is your primary means of transportation, go for this bag, it's awesome. If you will use it to carry around stuff off the bike, I'd recommend a backpack design like the Ivan rolltop bag.

I've been without a car for 5 years by choice. Prior to this bag I had a bontrager, a timbuk2 and a seagull. This thing blows them all out of the water. Best bag I've owned period, and I'm not even limiting that to messenger bags. The quality is above the backpacks that I've owned as well (NorthFace Arcteryx etc. ) I keep my 17 inch macbook pro, a u lock, tons of cords and accessories, a waterbottle moleskines and a lot more in this and very often stop at the store and pickup groceries which includes gallon jugs.. and this thing swallows them up no problem. Durable, spacious, stylish what more could you want?

I've had a Chrome bag for 6 years. I couldn't believe that i had it for that long by the condition that it's in! Yeah the thing is dirty from 6 years of daily use, but no issues with the bag. if i took the time to give it a quick rubdown, the thing would look good as new. I have pushed the limits of this bag so that it is bulging with straps hanging on for dear life yet it never fails me. I love it so much my family calls it my man bag because i always have it near me. I wonder if i should take it to the store with me when I go because you never know when you'll need it! I whole-heartedly recommend this bag if you are looking for something that will last and fit your needs. this thing is built with efficiency, power, capability, comfort, and lined with pure ruggedness of the rare lumberjacks teardrops.

I wrote this review about a month ago for a blog I contribute on. I tried to make it as detailed as possible, so people could get the best understanding of the bag. Enjoy.

I have had this bag for about 6 months and iove I had a timbuk2 but got this one can hold my laptop power block and and wacom tablet for class, also books and a jacket and some food with more room

granted i got them both as gifts. you'll never need more than one, i used to rock just a cheapo gap messenger bag and all my "stuff" got wet. never again. this bag holds everything i need and more. i carry all my bike essentials and never am cramped for space. i promise you'll love this bag. the only thing comparable timbuk2 bags have on this is the tag says "quality sh** since 19 somethin somethin" not verbatim obviously. once a chrome bag always a chrome bag.

I've owned my fair share of messenger bags, and I can say with all honesty that the Chrome is the best. Materials, build quality, comfort, everything. I've put mine through some serious abuse and it still works as well as the day I first bought it. Even in the rain and snow, the contents of my bag have never gotten wet. Having the seatbelt clasp is really convenient too.

I've had this bag for nearly five years now- use it daily and throw it around - and everything is still perfect. Its made it through the MPLS snow, rain and sleet and has never failed me.

This bag is perfect for music festivals, weekends out, whatever. I took this to Bonnaroo and carried EVERYTHING I needed in it (secret pocket was a success!) When it began to rain we put our stuff inside it, laid it on the ground and danced the rest of the show without a worry. Everything inside stayed nice and dry.
I only wish it had some back padding but with careful placement this can become a non issue.

I honestly don't know how I lived without my Metropolis bag. I use it everyday and never go anywhere around town on my bike without it. The amount of stuff that I can fit in it is amazing too. I can easily throw a few books and my laptop in it. Everyone comments on how great it looks too. I think half the reason to get one is how cool it looks.

I've owned a lot of bags in my life - backpacks, messenger, sling, etc. I destroy them. They're good for about 6 months, 8 on the outside, and then they're trash. Broken zippers, torn straps, holes worn through the material, busted seams, you name it...
I own two Chrome messengers - one Metropolis, and one of the discontinued Kremlins. Both have lasted me almost two years of daily abuse. Bike rides in the rain, crashes, falls, scrapes - the only thing that's showing signs of wear are the colors (well, I'm sure the colors are probably fine, if I ever washed the dirt off...).
Buy this bag. You won't be disappointed.

This bag is fantastic. Well built and will hold anything and everything that you can throw at it. After a few hard nights at the bars, my friends left their hikes at my place and they needed them next day. Long story short, I was able to throw 2 complete bikes on the back of this bag and ride them to their place comfortably. I haven't seen any other bag that will hold anywhere near the capacity of what this bag will hold. Haven't had any problems with it after a year and a half of thorough use in rain, snow, heat, and wind. I'll definitely be buying another bag here in the near future.
The waterproof lining also works well to hold ice and beer. Just saying.

I have had my Metropolis bag now for close to 5 years. I started using it to ride from Oakland to SF for work, as a way to carry a few sets of extra clothes, shoes, food and booze. The hidden flask pocket is key and I can't even count how many times I've used the integrated bottle opener on the front buckle! I still use this bag regularly for daily rides and take it with me every time I fly as my carry on. This bag is a sturdy as the day I bought it, the material used is very high quality, and you can cram just about anything you can think of into it. I would never even consider buying anything other than a Chrome bag at this point. This is the perfect bag!

I got my chrome bag as a birthday present three years ago, use it every day only 13 mile each way commute to work and wouldn't be satisfied with anything else. I love it and my friends who bought it for me, it was the best birthday present evar!

I've had this bag since 07 and on or off my bike; Michigan rain, snow, or shine; it is the only bag I use.

I have several bags and the metropolis is the biggest one I own and sometimes it is just pretty convenient to use it to carry whatever... going to soccer practice/gym etc when you need to carry a bunch of stuff.
9/2/10 by Pete
It's a man purse you're not embarrassed about. It carries bike tools, lock and rope, water, your laptop and whatever else you need for the day. rain gear perhaps? The metropolis carries everything. $50 in groceries, a small laundry machine, a computer tower, and probably a small person. the bag is huge, but once it's broken in it never feels too big. Don't get the citizen, you'll feel like a fool when you can't carry all your books. 2 years old, it still rocks like a champ (with the help of a little seam grip where i tore the liner. Everything is always dry.

This is a great bag, I use it for biking and pretty much everyday use. It is durable and large enough to put anything in it. I would recommend this bag to anyone. It is worth every penny and iI would not trade this bag for anything!

this bag is super awesome i use it everyday and no signs of wear and tear! it is for sure meant to be used everyday and packed with amillion things! the inside is awesome you can spill anything and just wash it off easy and fast! this bag has eriosluy made life easier! i dont have to worry about space in my bag or if its not going to be comfortable because i already knw it will be.

I have the gray and black Metro. I USE the Metro size. Not many people use a size like this but buy it anyway. I have used it in the rain, snow, mud, hiking, biking, traveling...nearly everything. Hell, I even used it as a makeshift cooler once and filled it up with beer and ice and bike across town! Thank god it was hot, otherwise that cold ice would have been miserable!
I keep my money in the secret pouch. Once, I had noticed my bag had gone missing. Turns out it was a prank. My friends said they needed $20 and swiped the bag to search for it. They never found my wallet. I later chained up their bikes with my lock and "lost the key."
This bag suffers a .5 star reduction because of the stabilizing strap. When carrying a full load, it is important to extend the strap to a longer length. If you do so, the strap's reflective surface will be on the inside instead of the outside. I thought that by simply turning the buckle around I would remedy this situation, but after a good sprint, it turns around and hides again. If the reflective piping were on both sides, the strap would be perfect. I find the same problem with the main buckle straps on the front. Large loads require over-extensions, which hide the reflective surfaces rendering them useless.
I've never had a backpack for more than one year. I've had this bag for going on three years. If you want to get there alive and with your supplies dry, the first line of defense is a strong, reflective, water resistant bag.

Well, not really bomb proof, but pretty damn close. The water proof liner works both ways really...keeping wetness out and in! How is that a good thing you ask? How about when you are packing some cold drinks and ice to your favorite trails with friends? I didn't get wet and the drinks stayed cold.
I also managed to carry anything from grocery to a DVD player in there. The volumn makes it super versatile.

Have had it for over a year. Use it for everything from camping to going to the beach. Still looks new! Want another one for my son!!!!

I've had my bag for a couple of years now.. It's actually the Kremlin which they don't seem to make anymore, but anywho. I was told that its water proof. So I decided that my bag would work perfect as a cooler! A little ice and some brew hah's (Hamms) put into this bag and what do ya know. I went hiking around with a nice cooler on me back! Wash it out with the hose and the next day I was using it to keep my clothes, laptop and other paper documents dry.... Who'd a thunk.

Pretty much the best purchase of my life. It took me 4 years to get enough money to buy a Chorme bag (college will do that to you) but when I did, I can honestly say it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.
The only issue I've ever had was the belt bunching up at the base of the adjuster--but you just fix that as your walking.
For those of you wondering, "is this the right bag SIZE for me?"
Here's my way of deciding, if you're going to live out of your bag you need this one. Theres enough room for a Laptop, Several books, a change of clothes, pair of shoes, and a hard drive--So it's a great bag if you're always on the go and like to have everything with you.
