Hauling loads of unruly musical equipment, over-sized packages, and a weeks worth of clothing & provisions has lead me to believe that the Kirov is true-blue. A thoughtful design on this pack really comes through in its comfortable, dependable, and functional day-to-day demeanor. I'll continue to throw my outlandish concepts of what can be transported on a bike at the Kirov because, quite frankly, I know it can handle them. Whatever I need to get from point A to point B, the Kirov is my main squeeze. Word up.

Great all-around bag.

I've now used this as my daily bag for about 4 months of 7-10 miles daily commuting, after several years of using a smaller sling-style bag and a occasionally a Chrome Metropolis. So far, I'm very satisfied with this product.
I was very comfortable with sling-style bags, so going back to a backpack-style bag was a bit of a risk. However, the symmetry of the bag makes it very nice for bike-handling. The capacity is amazing (especially for carrying beer, I must admit), and I find it very comfortable with heavy (20-30 lb) loads, as long as the straps are adjusted properly. It is a bit big for an everyday bag, but I find the utility makes it worthwhile.
It also makes for an ideal airplane carry-on. It's just barely narrow enough to fit beneath a seat. The lock pocket is very convenient for carrying a U lock while riding, but be careful not to crack your elbow on the lock while walking!
My only major issue is the rearward visibility while riding. I find that the top corners of the bag cut into my over-shoulder view quite a bit. I've gotten used to this, but it took some time. I would also appreciate a few more zippered pockets, especially for smaller items, like cameras, phones, earbuds, sunglasses, etc. So far I haven't lost anything out of the open pockets, but they make me a bit nervous.
All and all, I'm very happy with this product. The overall quality is fantastic—it is comfortable, useful and I would absolutely buy it again.
great all around bag

ive had this bag fo a little over 2 years and honestly i dont have one complaint. i usually commute on my bike over 16 miles a day and ive stuffed everything into this bag with out a problem. you just need to know how to pack it so it stayes balanced. as far as it taking a beating? do your worse, it'll handle it, ive travel with it, in the gym, messenger work and everything else in between and the bag is still good as new. i would highly recommend.
Very disappointed

This one very uncomfortable bag. It gets round with heavier loads. The bag gets bottom heavy and out of shape. Horrible! I won't be buying anything else from this company that's for sure. And at the price it's offered I can't believe more thought hasn't gone into redistributing the weight better. Come on....200$ plus dollars for the feeling you're carrying a sack from the early 1800's. You guys have to do better than that!
Darn good bag!

Great quality and waterproofness, but it needs a bit of tweeking to make 5 stars. I am in the process of adding
1 A removable waist strap w/buckle
2 A drawstring flap on the inside of the top to pull the sides in w/ big loads
3 A key clip
4 Snaps on the outside pockets to keep them closed so stuff doesn't fall out
5 Another inside pocket (removable)
6 Another set of buckles/straps on the sides to cinch in the top flap
Obviously I must like this bag a lot or I wouldn't bother with all these mods!
It carries and works well even without them, but with them it should rock!
If it had these features I'd give it 6 stars!!!
Nice, but not so nice

Pros:
Made in the USA
Waterproof
Cons:
Does not hold its shape in heavy loads. The bag becomes rounded and extremely uncomfortable.
The shoulder straps are wider than most. For smaller riders and/or females. look elsewhere.
Not super comfortable holding goods in the front pockets. Since it is only closed with velcro (which comes undone if you have a heavy load) and a buckle if thrown on its side stuff falls out.
Chest strap is not of high quality
In the end. If you are carrying a pair of shoes, and some books. perfect. any more than that it will sit awkwardly on your back
Well balanced, even for heavy loading...

Just picked mine up at Salvagetti's in Denver, then proceeded to load 4 1/2 gallons worth of juice and milk (plus a few large grapefruit) into it for the ride home. No problem! And when full and heavy it still provided for a very balanced ride, as if I were riding with a much smaller pack.
I definitely recommend the Kivov if you're looking for a bag to do the large-volume commutes and you're concerned about ride-ability.
pinche perfecto

i was using the soyuz before getting this pack, then i upgraded to a larger laptop that wouldn't fit into the soyuz's laptop sleeve so i had to get something bigger. i wanted a pack that wasn't too big but yet could carry a lot in a pinch. the soyuz is very limited with it's super narrow profile but the kirov is not. i think it's the perfect size for daily commutes. it doesn't feel huge when you don't have much in it (the compression straps are a nice touch) but when you have to stop at the store on the way home you can really load it up. a built in laptop compartment would be nice but it's no big deal, i just use a separate padded sleeve inside. overall i'm very happy with this pack.
Bomb-tastic!

I use it for everything...bike, work, gym, beer runs. It holds everything. As much as I love the Metropolis, this is much more comfortable for the heavy loads. Thanks Chrome!!
Best Backpack I've owned
9/2/10 by Zach
I started my backpack search after I lost my old favorite (an old military surplus model) to strap failure. I went through, and essentially destroyed a series of backpacks after that, until I reached the Kirov. I generally beat the crap out of everything I own, and the Kirov is a backpack that I know won't fail. Extremely rugged and well made, I can use it everyday as well as for travel. The waterproofness is top stuff too, I get regularly rained on in Boston, and any electronics and papers stay nice and dry.
