One Crazy Ass Story...
January 29, 2010 / Boston, MA
One of the craziest stories i think we've ever received here, if you have a minute read it. Pretty inspiring...
I’ve wanted to write this message for awhile but for some reason never got around to it. First, I would like to say that I absolutely love your bags and your company! I've had my bag for several years now and it has survived all the ups and downs of New England weather and the hair-raising antics of Boston streets. I'm writing first to ask a question and second to tell a little story about how awesome and durable your bags really are. The question: The zipper on the outside pocket of my bag is broken (won't zip) do you guys do repairs? Or do you suggest I just bring the bag to a tailor and see if they can install a new zipper? And if so can I purchase a replacement zipper? Everything else about the bag is great, so I'd like to fix it rather than replace it at this point.
Now to the story, this all went down in October 2008. My best friend and I had just spent the evening with another friend, this friend had a mini-freak out about an ex of hers and left us. We ended up tracking her down a couple hours later at a really sketchy bar and picked her up. She was very drunk and upset at this point and our main goal was to get her to bed. She said she needed to walk around a little bit before we took her home, so we humored her and ended up walking around behind the New England Aquarium, which incidentally is on the Boston Harbor (cold New England water at midnight in 40 degree October). We were hanging out near a sea wall when our totally nutso friend jumped off the wall (10 feet) and into the dark freezing ocean below. We were shocked to say the least, and in a split second I decided not to jump in after but to use my Chrome Bag as a rope. I unbuckled the strap, and threw the bag down and screamed at her to grab on. She was drunk and disoriented at this point, but she held on to the bag which was the only thing that kept her from being submerged in the water. I wasn't strong enough to pull her out so we had to call 911 (who in turn sent ambulances, police, and the coast guard (!!!)). In the meantime a lovely gentleman on date was walking near us, I screamed for help and he ran over, together we used the Chrome Bag to pull her out of the water, onto the wall, and to safety. Without the bag I have absolutely no doubt that she would have drown, and maybe me too if I'd had nothing to throw down and had jumped into ocean instead. So I just wanted to let you know how badass your products are, lifesavers, for real. Thanks! :)
