Tales from the Road

June 22, 2010 / Sacramento, CA

This here is the first installment of the Familia Blog. In the days and weeks ahead you’ll be able to return to this page and find travel log entries from the dirtbags who make up our family as they get lost all over the world. For this first entry...We’re going to use it to recount the single day that gave birth to the idea of assembling this crew of misfits.

The idea was as simple as it gets. Leave Cardiel’s house in Sacramento and ride bikes down to the Delta. Bring a couple of Chrome’s backpacks which conveniently have a waterproof liner that allowed us to dump ice and beers in them for transport to the river. Bring enough pocket change to buy some shitty fishing rods, hooks and live bait. Find a good spot. Cast our lines and have some beers. And that was it. The perfect day.

Heading out towards the Sacramento River

Liquor store with live bait? Check

 Manny goes for the bait

Then some hooks and weights

Pour the ice in the backpacks

Loading up

Fold up the poles . . . hit the road

Manny doesn't catch anything. But let's be honest, fishing is about beers and good friends and has very little to do with fish anyways.

Pack-up

 And we're out. Looking forward to what's next . . .
