These shoes are truly unique (in grey) and just gorgeous details. I sure hope they last.
A few pertinent remarks though: The fit is stiff but not uncomfortable for me (10), much like any good shoe would be. I therefore suggest to folks purchasing these, to slowly break them in. Just wear 'em for a few hours at a time for a bit as they break in. Perhaps...(we shall see) they will last longer if broken in slowly.

Pros - Very comfortable and easy to get on and off. Stylish. Bulletproof.
Cons - Material that is sewed into the heal cracked into a million pieces. Then I had a seem open up inside the heal. Now every day I have a little piece of gum material that gets under my foot. Needless to say it is very uncomfortable when this happens.

I bike year round in Chicago, and these shoes have been awesome for almost two years including last winter's "snowmagedon." I work as an RN in the operating room at a major university medical center and keep a pair (which I cleaned well) to wear at work. I work 12 hour shifts standing and running all day, and these are still the most comfortable shoes I have both for cycling and working. The outsoles started peeling away from the shoe pretty quickly, but they remain attached. So far it seems a cosmetic rather than structural problem. I highly recommend these shoes.

I'm pretty hard on shoes and usually get 6 mo. MAX out of a pair of kik's.
I've had these for 5mo and the only problem i've had was the edges of the rubber "kickgaurd" in the front of the shoes peeled a little.
The good-
Light and comfy.
The Canvas- No Rips or Tears
The Soles - 5 mo. and Still around 80% (Awesome)
The Zippers - Use them daily and never had an issue. (Awesom-er)
The Bad-
Rubber "kickgaurd" or "toe piece" peeled off about a 1/2 in on the side edges within 4mo.
(i trimmed it with a razor and it has not peeled more nor looks like shite)
I gave them 4 ☆ because i havent had an issue with the shoes, other than the rubber toe piece (which is a stupid problem).
Keep making good shit and ill keep buying it.

I got these actually off of ebay, eventhough I have the short ones too, I tend to wear these in gray all the time. They are so freaking comfortable. It took them about a week to break in, but after that, they are like wearing nothing. I wish I could buy a lifetime's supply.

Chucks styling but super performance. My feet stay dry/warm all winter here in Portland, they clean up well and they are pretty easy to get on and off. I wore these about five days a week for six months and they have stood up very well. They are a bit too warm in the Summer, and they are a little spendy, but the longer I have them, the more I realize they are worth the cash.

I've got this amazing Specialized 26" hardtail that takes me anywhere and everywhere I want to go, and I never get on it without these shoes. Never. That's the reason I use crappy stock pedals instead of clipless... The best riding shoes in the world don't accept cleats.
Please, make a Saipan pro so I can go back to clipless pedals. I will buy them, pinky promise.

Got them in grey and love them! Thanks for making a cycling shoe that looks good off the bike too!

i was looking for a tough shoe that would last but after 3 weeks the zippers broke. they were not worth the money

I've only worn them in less than a week and they've fallen apart faster than any other shoe I've ever bought. Though a lot of people like them(thought they would look better if they weren't so old, which they weren't). My Pf Flyers have lasted a ton longer than these or any other shoe, those and TUK(I haven't worn those in years). I bought the grey and black pair. They look great, but they don't last. I always take great care of my shoes and almost none of my shoes have fallen apart. These took less than a week to fall apart and costed $30 more than my canvas Pf Flyers.

It's probably not what you intended, but I've been looking for shoes like this for years. I ride a Sportster that is slowly becoming a bobber project, and I usually wear Vans or Adidas. While not intended for that kind of riding, I got the basic (though limited) protection I needed in a shoe that I also wore everywhere else.
Then along Comes the Saipan. Thick sole, heavy rubber, lace garage, high top, solid construction, intelligent design, and (frankly) badass. No company on earth is making a shoe better suited to modern bikerider culture (as opposed to old school, leather-clad "bikers"). Thank you!!!

I shattered my ankle and right after getting out of the hospital bed I put these on! They were heavier but it helped me in my recovery! You gotta get some soks with some thickness because the inside seem near the toe can rub! Other than that their extremely comfortable! Great support and have helped me get back on the Bike!

To begin, I've put these shoes through hell for the past five months. I live in Montreal, and these shoes have been there for my daily commutes with feet upon feet of snow, all the salty urban roads, -20C/-4F weather, etc. I've worn these shoes when it was probably stupid to do so since I have pretty nice winter footware (goretex kind of winter wear).
So design: Phenomenal. I'm riding fixed with tiny little track pedals and rarely get off my bike (track-stands at streetlights). I was wearing Macbeths (similar to Chucks) before this, and although they could handle my shorter daily commute to school (5k), my feet were not so happy on those 30-40k days. This shoe erased that problem. No pressure over distance or with t-stands. Same can be said for just walking around, all the city debris is hardly felt under these.
Poor construction: Like many of the others noted, the red-rubber lining started falling off within a couple weeks (before winter even got bad). Later, the rubber lining the toe-area has started to peel as well, starting to show serious problems with the seams and structural integrity of the shoe. By the looks of it, my shoes have at best another couple of months before falling apart. Also, one of the zippers jams now, though this might be due to my environment and the snow+salt combination I've subjected these shoes too. Either way, at $80, I was hoping for a little more use.
Conclusion: I want to buy another pair of these, but I'm holding out as long as I can to see if Chrome will address these issues, as 5-month durability is pretty poor in my books. For what they were designed for, riding and everyday use, they really are really fantastic though. Maybe I'll just get the Kursk (@ $70) for the summer, and see if maybe it's just my abuse that tore apart these shoes, but based ont he number of other durability-related comments, I'm guessing it's not just me.

I am addicted to these shoes, they are quite comfortable and easy to put in and out (thanks to the very smart zipper on side). I am going to get my third pair in a row and can already predict their shelf life: If you use them almost daily... They will last about 8 months. The sole will wear first, to the point the rim around the tip or the back logo will come out. The zipper is also the next thing to jam, and depending on your use, the heal insert will rip through the inner lining. I highlight these aspects, because I like the shoe so much (design, comfort) I hope the Chrome artisans improve those little details for even longer life.

i bought these shoes to ride my bicycle mainly and was hoping the sole would be stiff enough to kick over my Harley with. Well, i couldn't be happier with how they work even when my bike doesn't and it takes a dozen or so kicks to start.
These are well worth the money and i will be buying another set the second these wear out.

Just finished spending the weekend digging my friends and myself out of a 20 year record snow fall in Minneapolis, this shoes stood up to the challenge and then some. If you are reading this... stop! Order them now! Worth every f*&king cent!

I assumed that these could handle a namby-pamby winter in the 415 or 646, but I was stoked to find out that my Dresdens and Saipans could handle a Chicago winter. I rode during cold, wet "winter advisory" and my feet stayed warm and dry despite my stupidly thin socks. I've had Chrome bags for years, but my expectations are continually surpassed by their other products as well.

I've worn chucks for most of my life, and I've been searching for something else since they went to shit years ago. I have two Chrome Bags and a wallet, so I went for these knowing that if anyone could take the style and make it kick ass... it's Chrome. These kicks are sick! They're obviously based on Cons (which is what I wanted), but improved in every way.
These things have cons beat straight up. They're more comfortable and weather-resistant, the sole if f***ing FANTASTIC, they don't some untied, they don't slip in the wet stuff or on your pedals, and they're obviously made with love. They're perfect for biking, walking, running, chillin or ANYTHING ELSE. Period. I love and trust these shoes as much as my Ranchero backpack that's like a brother to me.
Caveat: Pay attention to the red rubber "crash pad" under the insole. One of mine were installed wrong and it required a decent amount of buttcrack wizardry to fixed. If yours is fuqt and you don't want to fix it, just call Chrome and Darius will make the world a better place for you.
If you like (or liked) chucks, just buy these shoes. You get what you pay for and you'll be totally jazzed.

Biking is my main mode of transport. It can be hell on jeans and shoes, but who wants to carry "bike clothes" around all the time?
These shoes are wicked solid. I've burned through, vans, macbeths, chucks, all sorts of sneakers of the like and these are the only ones that haven't been torn to shreds in a couple months. They're still going strong! Not to mention the sole is made with biking in mind so when you put your foot in the clips your foot isn't going to bend around the pedal like it would with chucks. The sole is solid, and gives you great support for riding.
Not to mention they look awesome! And if you're lazy like me they have that kickass zipper on the side! The little elastic band for keeping your laces away from your chainring is super helpful too.
The one thing to look out for is because they're so solid they don't stretch, so make sure you get your size. I actually ended up getting a half size smaller than normal because I felt like with my normal size my foot slid forward in the shoe when i put my foot in my toe clips. I got a half size down and it's been amazing! That may be personal preference, but either way Chrome is stellar with their returns policy and support!
Best shoes I've owned in a very long time!
